A Custom Shoe Closet To Dream About

Our customers often need custom units done for their particular specifications.

The client who commissioned this custom closet is an exacting professional woman who is able to indulge her taste in clothing – and shoes in particular.

Moving into a new home, she decided that a bare wall was the ideal spot to place her shoe collection and the accessories she needed to reflect her image. The overall design theme was to be like the shoe closet in the movie “Sex in the City”, and was designed to compliment her dresser, makeup table & mirror and clothes closet.

We selected a cabinet shop that specializes in custom cabinets and wood-work. With the special requirements, we took our time and chose parts carefully. The size is 4 feet wide by 85 inches tall and 12 inches front-to-back. There are two full extension drawers and an extra shelf for flats and boots for lying down.

The client wanted the unit mirrored, no obvious handles and lights inside, a very sleek design to match the rest of the furniture in her dressing room. The glass shop custom-fit every piece of mirror on to the unit. Once we fit the heavy doors, we were very happy that we had designed in extra door hinge supports. The cabinet-maker had sprayed many coats of white lacquer on all the interior surfaces including the shelves for durability.

With the cabinet eased carefully to the upper floor by specialist movers, the electrician then installed the wiring, and the closet was fixed solidly on the wall. One touch of either door opens that door, and the two puck lights come on highlighting the footwear inside.

As you can see from the pictures, the collection from Jimmy Choo, Stuart Weitzman, Bally and Marciano (among others) is well housed.
